Reem Acra’s designs epitomize global glamour by offering women her innate fashion sense, European style and understanding of what looks and feels beautiful. Interlaced with her sense of luxury, her regal designs are developed with a modern aesthetic. The ready-to-wear and bridal collections evoke an ethereal quality, which appeals to a discerning clientele including personalities, royalty, and style setting women from all corners of the world.

In 1997, Acra launched her fashion business with a bridal collection that quickly became recognized for its elegance and impeccable designs. This success led to the introduction of the Reem Acra ready-to-wear collection six years later. Similar to its bridal counterpart, it features meticulously constructed designs ranging from understated chic to the ornate. It is distinctly modern but marked by rich color, lush fabrics, flawless construction and playful patterns. The Reem Acra flagship, located at 14 East 60th Street off Madison Avenue in New York City, opened in 2003. It is a jewel box that houses all the collections and mirrors the brand aesthetic.

While attending the American University of Beirut, Acra was discovered by a fashion editor. Captivated with the ornately embroidered silk organza gown Acra made from her mother’s dining room tablecloth and wore to a party, she instantly offered to host a fashion show for Acra that took place ten days later. Following the serendipitous encounter, Acra studied at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and its Paris counterpart at Esmod.

A short stint as an interior designer was followed by Acra’s return to her fashion roots working in Hong Kong and New York. A style-setting friend wore Acra’s first bridal design to her society wedding and it sparked international interest for the designer and Reem Acra Bridal was born. The gowns became renowned for transforming classic bridal designs through the finest silks, intricate beading and exquisite embroidery.

Celebrated for her ability to match a look to a woman’s personality, Acra has dressed global icons of style for weddings, red carpet appearances and awards ceremonies. Her following includes Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Eva Longoria as well as royal families around the world.

Acra’s ready-to-wear and bridal collections are carried by 150 of the world's most exclusive retailers. These stores include Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue in the United States as well as Saks Fifth Avenue and Harvey Nichols in the Middle East. Her designs are also available at top specialty retailers across the world: in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Istanbul, Egypt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Korea.

November 2012

The holidays are fast approaching as well as the cold weather. The tendency to put on a few more pounds and make excuses for it drastically increases. Yet, it does not have to be this way. You can slowly incorporate better food choices into your daily eating habits...some of which, you probably already have or can adjust to have very easily. Remember, if you learn which of the foods you already like are better for you than others, you may have a better chance at keeping the weight off, and even losing a few pounds in the process. A smart food is one that is good for you nutritionally and helps aid in weight loss as well.

  1. Apples: No surprise here. The saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is very popular for a reason. They are a good source of fiber and if eaten after a meal can help the feeling of fullness go up to 2 hours longer.
  2. Cinnamon: This spice can be added not just to morning or dessert foods, but can also be added to poultry as well for an interesting zing. It reduces your blood sugar levels which is an added bonus for reduction of calories in your body.
  3. Pine Nuts: If you are a "pesto" lover, you are already consuming pine nuts! Pine nuts help you to feel full faster and contains the most protein of all nuts.
  4. Chili Peppers: If you are into the spicy things, this one you will love. By raising your blood temperature it can help to burn calories, but it also it has the ability to help you feel full faster as well.
  5. Pumpkin or Squash Seeds (Pepitas):  Can help to decrease the body's ability to store fat! In addition to being high in Omega-3 fatty acids, they are high in protein and manganese which helps to control cravings and appetite. Roast a few and add them to your salad or top on your meat dishes.

The new collection embraces coordinated dressing for parents and kids, without compromising individual style. Patterns and structures of rich burgundies, soft creams, pinks, and blacks, coupled with modern silhouettes, offer slick luxe looks to wear now through the Holidays.

For mom, it’s about looking chic and feeling cool in graphic textured jackets with sleek skinny trousers or a metallic mini. A collarless faux-fur jacket over a modern structured dress, accessorized with a clutch, oversized jeweled earrings, and the essential black sunglasses create a great look for any autumn outing. Girls can complement their moms with blush-pink party dresses and graphic textured jackets. There’s even a faux-fur vest for the little fashionistas.

H&M didn't forget the guys. Dad can step into cool with a refined rock n roll look. A sharp black suit, zip-up leather jacket, soft knit sweaters, and washed shirts make looking good easy. Finish the look with sunglasses, a knit beanie, or a washed linen scarf. The boys will look just as clever as dad in elbow-patch sweaters and long-sleeve tees. A black fedora and matching sunglasses polish off these little rock stars.
The “Fashion Family” collection will be available in store beginning October 22nd at 36 H&M locations in the United States.

Todd Inman: Philly's Own "Creative Solution"

Todd Inman, CEO of Tinman Creative Solutions
Follow Me on Pinterest
If you take the world's most successful men and put them in a room, you are likely to find that these men have many traits in common. If you put one successful man in a room filled with unsuccessful men, you are likely to find men who don't think they have anything in common. Part of being successful is understanding that there are certain things one must do when others do not want to. Another part of being successful is understanding how not to do the same things over again that prove to be unproductive. Todd Inman, a Hampton University graduate and Pennsylvania native, is learning that sometimes treading the waters and roads less traveled has more than just ups and downs, but curves and curve balls that require determination and perseverance in order to push through. The late, great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "...If you can't fly, run; if you can't run, walk; if you can't walk, crawl, but by all means keep moving...." Todd understands that every step he takes gets him closer to his goal, and he is learning to dance through the curve balls...in gold boots (Skee-Roo!).

The IDEAL Magazine had an opportunity to have an intimate exchange with this Philly filmmaker...and he was all the more candid, which was extremely appreciated.

In his own words....
Film/Production Company and Inspiration
"Tinman Creative Solutions, a film writing/production and advertising creative company was founded in 2011. I was a standup comedian and businessperson so I took the leap of faith to bring my ideas and concepts to the big and small screen and Madison Avenue. My inspiration came from my unique standup material. My background of growing up “black in the suburbs” inspired material that was different from what was popular at the time. So the writing of my film projects, honed as an English Major at Hampton University, educates people of all races who don’t know that story. The television ads I create target Generation X and Y because I feel that age group is moving beyond barriers of race and they can appreciate and identify with elements of all cultures."

His first Major Project

"I had an idea for a web series about being black in corporate America inspired from my many years working for fortune 100 companies. I felt like most people were unaware of the unique, often daunting experience it is to be one of the few blacks in the workplace. I called the comedy “The Corporate Brother.” I solicited for local actors; I picked up an HD Camera, confirmed the location and produced the first episode. It was a “learn by doing” experience because I had never used a camera nor had ever seen an editing program. After the first episode we received positive feedback so we completed an entire season with 5 episodes found on YouTube. The project is intended to be much more than just funny. I want to highlight differences of race by the use of humor in hopes of fostering understanding and uniting people. I am a big fan of stand-up comics like Dick Gregory and Chris Rock who use their platform to humorously tackle social issues. People seem to absorb ideas more easily while laughing."

"The experience was invaluable for me to learn all aspects of production: writing a script, auditioning actors, scouting and getting permission of location, wardrobe, props, meals, filming, editing, promoting, and crisis management."

Challenges of Stepping out of the Corporate Hustle
"There have been many challenges to pursuing my dream and entrepreneurship. One of which is obtaining the resources to compete with other filmmakers or agencies with much larger budgets. I have so many ideas that I would like to bring to life but I am hindered by lack of resources to do them. For instance, if I am bidding on being the creative behind an advertising campaign, I don’t have the studio to produce this dynamite spec commercial to showcase my idea. I have to present to the client in terms of ideas or low-budget specs and hopefully convince the client to visualize what I could do if they hired and paid me."

Friends and Family Support
"I am grateful for the support I have received from family and friends. My mother
and father have encouraged me every step of the way. My son and daughter have
also been a source of inspiration. My son, an aspiring music producer called C.I. Rise,
has made almost all of my musical score. I also appreciate the many people who
have shared my work on social media sites and blogs, including Ideal PR."

Hope for the Future

"I hope to collaborate with other writers and filmmakers in the future. I realize that
other people’s experiences and insight can help shape The Corporate Brother and
other future projects."

Current Project
"I am working on writing Season 2 of The Corporate Brother. I am also writing a feature length film on a love story and a short comedy film. I am also freelancing as a copywriter developing ads for clients."

NBC's The VOICE...The Battle Rounds Continue

Follow Me on Pinterest

As the battle rounds continue on the best vocal competition show on TV, NBC's "The VOICE," have you begun to narrow down your favorites?

This season, season 3, with the introduction of being able to "STEAL" the contestant whom the coach did NOT pick has made things more interesting. It would appear that this would statically create a final group of the stronger voices overall. And so far, its has been great.

There have been some surprising walk-aways, and some expected "Steal battles." Who are you loving right now?

The judges have some heavy hitters as consultants on their teams, one of these being Mary J Blidge on Adam Levine's team. As if Adam was not sexy enough on his own, he had to include the Queen of R&B Soul on his team to make for one spicy competition.

This year, ALL of the teams seem to have strong options, so it will be interesting to see how the contestants fair this week as the battle rounds continue.
